3 lakh saplings to be planted in Kulgam

District Development Commissioner Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, today chaired a meeting to review the preparedness of plantation drive which would commence from March 11 in the district.Principals of Government Degree Colleges of Kulgam, Kilam, DH Pora, ACR, DFOs of Forest and Social Forestry, District officers of Education, Health, Floriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture and Soil Conservation Departments attended the meeting.During the meeting, it was decided that around 3 lakh saplings of different varieties would be planted in Kulgam this year. On the occasion, the DDC directed officials of concerned Departments to make concerted efforts to ensure that set targets are achieved in this regard.It was given out that Forest Department is going to plant 110800 saplings, Social Forestry 36800 saplings, Soil Conservation 18000 saplings, Horticulture 27000 saplings and 30000 saplings will be planted by Sericulture Department, besides as many as 430 chinar saplings would also be planted at identified locations in the district.The meeting was informed that all the major hospitals and educational institutions would be covered under the said drive.
