Sheep breeders training programme organized at Kulgam

A daylong training-cum-awareness programme for sheep breeders of Kulgam was held today which was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Showkat Aijaz Bhat.The programme organized by Sheep Husbandry Department under Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme is aimed to help the breeders to acquaint themselves with the latest technology and practices in the Sheep Husbandry sector. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC stressed on utilizing Khacharie land available in the district for sheep and cattle grazing on a large scale. He asked breeders to avail the benefits of modern technology used in sheep rearing.He informed the breeders that the Government is going to establish four Sheep Parks on State land in each constituency for boosting this sector.He advised them to make full use of latest technology and rear genetically modified cross breeds to start sheep farming as a viable income generating option.Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner released Rs 87000 as incentive among 87 families to help in flourishing the sector in the district.Officials of the Sheep Husbandry Kulgam presented a detailed report of various steps taken by the Department to boost the sector and about dosing and vaccination carried out to prevent the livestock from various diseases.
