A two-day training-cum-awareness program for sheep breeders of Shopian was held today which was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Manzoor Ahmad Qadri.The programme organized by Sheep Husbandry Department under Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme is aimed to help the breeders to acquaint themselves with the latest technology and practices in the Sheep Husbandry sector. On the occasion, the DDC said that Shopian has a vast potential in sheep husbandry sector owing to its large stretches of grazing land and easily available fodder for sheep population.He impressed the breeders to rear genetically modified cross breeds of Sheep such as corriedale sheep for maximum production of meat and wool. He asked breeders to avail the benefits of modern technology used in sheep rearing.The DDC directed the officials of Sheep Husbandry Department to formulate Self Help Groups of 5-10 breeders, so that they are linked with financial institutions for proper funding. Officials from Animal Husbandry Department, JKEDI and Financial Institutions were also present on the occasion.
