The subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited from Sumbal and adjacent areas of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district Friday staged a massive protest against the Nigam accusing BSNL officials of being insensitive towards their hardships. The protesters said that BSNL Exchange in Sumbal is defunct from past fortnight as a result BSNL phones are not working in the area. They alleged that despite bringing the matter into the notice of Chief General Manager BSNL, nothing was done in this regard. “The general public of the area is suffering for want of communication services,” a protester told CNS.“The BSNL towers remain un-operational  and the fuel provided by the company for operation of towers in case of power failure go pilferaged and unutilized. There is no check on the lower staff and many posts of the BSNL officers were lying vacant in the area. Telephone exchange remains out of order and landline as well as mobile phones remains disconnected for days together. There is nobody to listen to the woes of the public,” the protesters said and appealed Union Telecom Ministry to take the ‘haughty and careless’ BSNL officials to task. (CNS)
