Syed Ali Geelani castigates police for arresting ‘mourners’

All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday while lashing at police authorities, criticized for detaining 31 youth in Nathnoosa and shifting them to Baramulla and Handwara jails. It is state sponsored terrorism, said Geelani & this sheer lawlessness illustrates the egoistic and autocratic behaviour of state authorities. Ridiculing police for their heartless approach, Geelani said that it is injustice that mourners are barred from sharing their grief for martyrs and even were not allowed to offer their last rituals. It is shocking that police have filed cases against those who participated in their funeral prayers, were convicted and detained, said Syed Ali Geelani.Syed Ali Geelani in his statement expressed his deep anguish over thrashing of students and teaching staff in Lassipor Pulwama and said there are distressing reports from North Kashmir that forces are creating situation horrifying like that of nineties.Urging immediate release of Nathnoosa youth, Syed Ali Geelani said that authorities have converted state into big jail & every soul here feels insecure in such horrifying circumstances. 

Forces, police and other agencies feel free and unaccountable for their misdeeds. It is quite strange that those carrying the dead bodies of martyrs were implicated and lodged in jail. He while lamenting at top brass in police, said that they are surpassing all their limits, laid unjustified restrictions for mourners and it is more heartening that youth in Baramulla district feel insecure and can’t even venture out freely.Syed Ali Geelani said that records reveal and District Baramulla lists top where people have been slapped with Public Safety Act and detained in jail. The authorities have turned Baramulla Joint interrogation centre into a slaughter house & people are subjected to extreme torture. While referring to some top police officers, Syed Ali Geelani said that they are harassing the civilian population and taking undue advantage of their post and position.Referring to youth detained in Nathnoosa, Syed Ali Geelani said that police have no honour for human values & instead of performing their assigned duties are manhandling civilians and resorting to arrogance.Syed Ali Geelani said that differences if any with the dead, do come to end as soon as he breaths his last and every society pay their due reverence to the dead even if he figures among their enemy. 

Syed Ali Geelani said that in every society true & honourable rituals are offered for dead and it is the true essence of a civilized society.Syed Ali Geelani said those officers who arrested youth in Nathnoosa seem to be ill-informed about this & are doing this bullying simply for awards and rewards.Geelani expressed his deep concern over the manhandling and thrashing of teachers and students of coaching centers in Lasipora Pulwama and said that it has badly affected the routine life of common civilians there. They have laid curbs on their movement and during frisking are subjected to humiliation. Syed Ali Geelani said that forces on one pretext or the other are frisking, searching and harassing people during search operations.Huriyat chairman in his appeal to organizations for human rights urged to take cognizance of reports of harassment and atrocities being inflicted by forces against civilian population in nook and corner of state.
