The Qazigund-Banihal railway tunnel would also be used for the vehicular traffic during inclement weather and snowfalls. This would ensure timely movement of passengers and vehicles who often get stuck on the national highway for days due to blockade during bad weathers.Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is in the national capital, today took up the issue of using the Qazigund-Banihal railway tunnel with Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhu who assured all support and cooperation.Mr. Prabu agreed to the suggestion of using the railway tunnel for movement of vehicles during inclement weather.Modalities in this regard would be worked out shortly.It may be recalled that the said railway tunnel also has an inbuilt parallel road stretch which Mehbooba Mufti today sought from Mr. Prabhu to be used for facilitating traffic movement on national highway.
