Shortly after the Legislative Assembly Senior legislator and CPI(M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Wednesday alleged that Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta is hell-bent to bring a disrepute to the Parliamentarian Institutions like Legislative Assembly. He made these remarks after Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly was adjourned sine die on Wednesday amid row over the “expunging” of remarks of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.According to the already notified calendar, the assembly was to run until February 7.“This is not a way to adjourn the House. Obviously the Speaker would have taken the government into confidence before taking such decision. It is very strange and never in the history of Jammu and Kashmir has happened that a Speaker has adjourned the House sine die before the notified calendar,” Tarigami told reporters outside Legislative Assembly in Jammu. He said that the Speakers decision was not in the interest of Assembly and it is unacceptable.
“Speaker didn’t follow any procedure. In case of any deadlock in the House, the matter is referred to Business Advisory Council and when the Council fails to resolve the issue, groups of leaders are called to end the deadlock. However, this time neither the Speaker followed the convention nor it bothered to seek suggestions from the senior leaders of the House. It is an irony and not a healthy sign for democratic set up,” Tarigami said.“Our demand was very simple. We wanted Chief Minister to clarify here stand over the remarks she had made in the House over Article 370. Instead of looking at our demand, he (Kavinder Gupta) adjourned the House sine die. Obviously, there is government’s hand in it. Whatever happened is not good and it is a stigma on the functioning of the House in the State,” he said. (CNS)
