Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, who is also District Transport Authority, chaired a meeting today to review traffic management plan for better traffic regulation and to decongest major roads of the district.The meeting discussed ways and means to decongest the Anantnag town and to ensure hassle-free traffic movement in the district.It was decided that branding of vehicles registered with different stands shall be made, so that passengers can easily distinguish out the unregistered vehicles. Besides, the ARTO was directed to verify registration of different stands operating in the town.During the meeting, representatives of trade associations assured the DC that they will voluntarily remove encroachments on footpaths so that hassle-free pedestrian movement is ensured.

It was also agreed that for point-to-point plying of vehicles, routes shall be identified so that commuters are facilitated and traffic snarls are minimized.The Deputy Commissioner said that parking spots have already been identified for minimizing the traffic jamming in the town. He said that widening of Shirpora-Donipawa road shall be executed on priority, so as to ease the traffic rush in Janglat Mandi area.He also said that a transport plan has been formulated under AMRUT in the district to ensure better traffic management. Tehsildar, ATRO, DySP (Traffic), DySP Hqr, EO MC Anantnag, representatives of Traders Associations and Federations, Transporters, members of Civil Society and media fraternity attended the meeting.
