Already predicted by Meteorological Department, Kashmir Valley on Tuesday was lashed with snow and rains while Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was closed for traffic movement in the morning hours and later restored for stranded vehicles. According to GNS, light to moderate snow started in summer capital Srinagar since morning hours and continued intermittently throughout the day along with rainfall. Heavy snowfall again started in Srinagar this evening and was continuing when this report was being filed.Heavy snow also occurred in north and south Kashmir districts throughout the day. The higher reaches of the Valley including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Amarnath Cave, Sadhna Top, Gurez, Simthan Top, Jawahar Tunnel and Peer ki Gali also received heavy snowfall. There is forecast of heavy snowfall for tomorrow as well.Due to snowfall and slides, the authorities closed Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for traffic in the morning hours and later it was restored for stranded vehicles. The air traffic was also affected due to low visibility at Srinagar International Airport.(GNS)
