Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, who is also District Election Officer, today had an interaction with students in the run-up to the 7th National Voter’s Day to be observed on January 25.On the occasion, the DC answered numerous queries from students who were in the age bracket of 15-17 years. He described them as future voters and explained in detail issues like federal government structure to ECI, age limit for new voters, form 6, 7, 8, 8A and other related topics.Earlier, an interactive school engagement programme was also held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shopian to spread awareness about Voter’s Day.Informing the students that Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to dedicate the year 2017 to future voters and have the Day as running theme, the DEO exhorted all young eligible voters to enroll their names in electoral rolls to exercise their franchise in the coming election.He also informed that all newly enrolled voters will be felicitated on National Voters Day on January 25.
