Students of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, led by their Principal Dr. Kiran Bakshi, and Government Degree College Nawakadal, led by Dr. Bilqees, Associate Professor, Department of Education, called on Governor N.N. Vohra and Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, at the Raj Bhavan here today. The students, Ms. Zilmil Maingi, Ms. Tanvi Jain of GCW Gandhi Nagar; and Ms. Tabassum and Ms. Khalida of GDC Nawakadal, and their Principals extended New Year greetings to the Governor and the First Lady and presented to them products made by them under the ‘Skill Enhancement of Students’ initiative which has been started in Government Degree Colleges of the State.Governor and the First Lady lauded efforts of the GCW Gandhinagar students for setting up of a Florist Shop, undertake Mushroom Cultivation and produce fresh handmade chocolates and the GDC Nawakadal girls to start producing Papier Machie items. They appreciated their products which are being sold at outlets established in the premises of the two Colleges.
The Governor advised the students to work hard for upgrading their skills and the quality of their products so that they succeed in establishing their own brands which are locally popular. The Governor observed that the initiative of Startup India has been launched with the objective of providing opportunities to the budding entrepreneurs for innovation and development of new products, processes and services. He advised the accompanying Faculty to see that the maximum number of their girl students benefit from this scheme and become self-employed besides creating employment.The Governor and the First Lady wished them a happy and a prosperous New Year and success in all their future endeavours and presented sweets to the girls.Mr. P.K.Tripathi Principal Secretary to the Governor was present on the occasion.
