Minster for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary today stressed the need for public participation in saving river Tawi from getting polluted besides appealing the people to refrain from throwing garbage in the water bodies, canals and rivers to save these precious natural resources for future generations.The Minister was speaking at a programme organized by Communication & Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), Department of PHE, I&FC in association with Big 92.7 FM to create awareness among the people about the benefits of saving water and encouraging them to take part in ‘Big Jammu Run - Run to Save Water’ to be held at Gulshan Ground, Jammu on 8 January 2017.Pitching for saving river Tawi, the Minister launched ‘Clean Tawi’ drive for extracting garbage from the river.He asked the JMC officials to put in their best efforts for cleaning the river. He impressed upon the common masses to include water saving habits in their daily chores and use water judiciously.

The awareness programme on the theme, ‘Save Tawi’ was organized on the bank of river in which students from Jodhamal Public School, Little Buds Public School, Environment Educational Institute and artists from Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya participated.Chief Engineer, PHE Sushil Aima, Chief Engineer, I&FC Rajeev Gandotra, Chief Engineer Ravi Tawi Irrigation Complex HC Jerath, Joint Commissioner, JMC RS Jamwal, Executive Director CCDU Rajiv Malhotra, BJP State Secretary Vikram Randhawa and Convenor Tawi Andolan Advocate Chander Mohan Sharma were also present in the programme.Earlier, the Minister kick started macadamization work of 2.5 km long link road to be constructed at village Flora in Suchetgarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 60 lakh.The Minister also convened a public grievances redressal camp in which the villagers apprised him of several problems being faced by them mainly road connectivity, power supply, water supply, education, sanitation, healthcare and telecom.The Minister assured them that their genuine grievances would be redressed in a phased manner.
