The Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir State Social Welfare Board, Prof Nirmal Gupta today said that education of girls is a vital tool for their overall growth and development as well as empowerment of the entire society. She said need of the hour is that people should ensure all girls in their area get proper education.The Chairperson was speaking at inter-school debate competition on “Women Empowerment” organized by the Sampark Economical Development Society (SEDS) Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir State Social Welfare Board at Government Middle School, Satwari Cantonment here today.Prof Nirmal Gupta was the chief guest while Chief Executive Officer, JKSWB Shahid Mehmood Dar was the guest of honour at the function.“Youth are the real assets, treasure of a nation and education with strong foundation can shape them into positive contributors for the nation and state,” the Chairperson asserted.Chairperson said that both the Union and State Government are making concerted efforts to empower women so as to change their socio-economic condition and such efforts will be continued and given greater impetus in times to come.Prof Nirmal said that women empowerment is must in present era for creation of an environment for women where they can make decisions for their own benefit as well as for the society. She said women empowerment is increasing and improving the social, economic, political and legal strength of women to ensure their equal rights and to make them confident enough to claim their rights.
Appreciating the role of the institution in promoting education since the past 50 years, the Chairperson said that school has the history of producing brilliant students who have excelled in different fields in their life.While recalling her schooling from the same school in 1964-65 said that such institutions plays a vital role in building the foundation of a person which in the long run places good impact in his life. She underscored the need for providing a congenial atmosphere to students.The President, Sampark Economical Development Society, (SEDS) Nisha Verma in her address highlighted the role of women in society and their immense contribution in nation building. She dwelt in detail about the programmes for women launched by her organization in Jammu Division. She said the organization will carry forward its activities all over the in State to aware the women folk about their rights.Earlier, a large number of schools of education zone Satwari participated in the debate competition. The students spoke in favour and against the topic under the supervision of panel of judges.Priya Kumari of Government Higher Secondary School, Mandal bagged first position for speaking in favour of topic while as Tanya Sharma of New Era Environmental High School stood first for speaking against the topic.Later, the Chairperson distributed memtos and certificates among the best speakers. On the occasion the members of the SEDS including Swarn Kanta, Neelam Gupta, Shifali Sharma and Sushant Baigra were also facilitated.
