Hailing people for showing consistency in the ongoing uprising, Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that the joint leadership is carving out an effective strategy which will counter the restrictions and curbs laid by the authorities.The Mirwaiz said that the leadership was committed to take the ongoing freedom struggle to its logical end.
“The consistency showed by the people of Kashmir in the past five months of uprising is appreciable. People must follow the protest programmes in letter and spirit to take the ongoing movement to its logical conclusion,” Mirwaiz said while addressing the Fridaysermon at the historic Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta area of Srinagar.The Mirwaiz, who is also chief clergy, said that Hizb commander, Burhan Wani, Hizb militant, Basit Rasool Dar and hundreds others who sacrificed their precious lives for the freedom struggle have left a responsibility on their shoulders. “We have to respect their sacrifices by showing more consistency in the struggle till the goal is not achieved,” he said.
Mirwaiz appealed people to follow the joint protest programmes religiously to achieve the goal for which Kashmiris are fighting from the past several decades. He said that it was unfortunate that the religious places were being sealed and the people were being restricted from attending the religious events.“Keeping in view the restrictions by the government, the leadership is trying to devise a strategy to counter the restrictions and curbs laid by the authorities,” he said.While condemning the continuous arrest of youth and separatist leaders and activists, Mirwaiz said that thousands of youth are still behind bars and the government must release them at the earliest.Later, Mirwaiz led a large procession of people shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Intense clashes broke between the protestors and the deployed forces.Eyewitnesses told KNS that forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the youth who in return pelted them with the stones. (KNS)
