The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore on his first visit to Institute for the Blind in Sector 26, Chandigarh, emphasized the need for empowering the blind students by imparting them education and vocational training to enable them to live a life with pride and dignity.Appreciating the role of staff and management of the Institute for the Blind, the Governor said that the wheel of society is running on good deeds, positive thinking, transparency, determination and commitment. All these aspects are found in the management of this Blind Institute, because of which it is functioning smoothly and fulfilling all basic needs of the students.Shri V.P. Singh Badnore went around all the class rooms, dinning area, computer cell, Braille printing stations and evinced keen interest in the vocational activities and learning processes. He described blinds a national asset to the society and they should not be taken as a liability. He stressed upon giving homely upbringing, proper guidance to these children to transform them into self reliant and useful citizens of the Society. Expressing his views in the visitor’s book, he said that he had never seen anything so impressive and never thought a blind school could be so good.Major General Rajinder Nath, Chairman of the Blind Institute explained at length the functioning of the Institute. He said that the students were being taught upto class 12 and were also being considered for admissions in the city colleges. Mr. Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator was also present on the occasion.
