Mehbooba for ensuring adequate availability of quality medicines at hospitals

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today asked the Health & Medical Education Department to ensure availability of adequate quantity of medicine in the hospitals so that the patients don’t have to run from pillar to post to get the same. She also asked for maintaining the quality and standards of medicine provided to patients.Chairing the 3rd Board of Directors meeting of J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited here today, the Chief Minister impressed upon the functionaries of the corporation to minimise the gap between the on time requirement of medicines at the hospital counter and the supply delivery from their end.Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Baghat and Minister of State for Health & Medical Education, Asiea Naqash were present in the meeting.Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the chairperson of the corporation, asked the corporation management to ensure that complaints of non availability or spurious drugs do not come and supplies are optimally tested before use by patients.

On the directions of the Chief Minister, the Board decided that from April, 2017 all the hospital supplies would be rooted through J&K MSCL only for which she directed all concerned to furnish their demands of requirement in advance. She also stressed on using generic names for the medicine being prescribed at the hospitals.Mehbooba Mufti also reviewed the ware housing and storage capacity of the corporation at provincial and districts levels and directed that Deputy Commissioners in respective districts be asked to help the corporation in having adequate storage facility for drugs in their areas. She also asked the Corporation to ensure separate branding of drug supplies by it so that the same is not misused or sold in the market.Financial Commissioner, Planning and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas; Commissioner- Secretary, Finance, Navin Choudhary; Secretary, Health & Medical Education, M. K. Bhandari; Director, SKIMS, Prof. A. G. Ahangar; Principal, GMC, Jammu, Prof. Javed Geelani; Principal, GMC, Srinagar, Prof. Kaisar Ahmad; Managing Director, J&K MSCL, Dr. Yashpaul and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
