Civil Society Group CPA in Srinagar, calls on Mirwaiz, likely to meet Geelani, others today

In Yet another initiative of reaching out to the political leadership and members of Civil Society the Centre for Policy Analysis group headed by veteran journalists Seema Mustafa and Prem Shankar Jha here on Thursday called on Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and held close door discussions with a team of senior journalists including Rising Kashmir Editor Shujaat Bukhari, Kashmir Images Editor Bashir Manzar and Kashmir Horizon Editor Shafqat Bukhari.Sources privy to developments told KNS that the team of Centre for Policy Analysis (CPA) headed by Veteran journalists Seema Mustafa and Prem Shankar Jha straight way drove from the Airport to Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The Group members held extensive discussions with the Mirwaiz on the current situation of Kashmir and Mirwaiz is under stood to have told the team that uncertainty in Kashmir will continue to be a threat to peace till Kashmir issue is resolved. Mirwaiz according to sources told the team to play their role in facilitating a dialogue over Kashmir with India accepting Kashmir a dispute and initiating a broad based dialogue with the Kashmiri leadership and the government of Pakistan.

Later in the day the CPA team, according to sources, held a close door discussion with senior journalists and members of the civil society. Those invited for the discussion include Rising Kashmir Editor Shujaat Bukhari, Kashmir Images Editor Bashir Manzar, Kashmir Horizon Editor Shafqat Bukhari, Prof Gul, Wani, Mohammad Ashraf (Columnist), Sanjay Tikku, Sheikh Sajad, Raja Muneeb, Prof Sideeq Wahid and Faisul Yaseen.Speaking on the occasion Shujaat Bhukhari Editor Rising Kashmir called for immediate political outreach to Hurriyat and raised concerns over the participation of some top BJP leaders holding important positions in the state and central governments in RSS rallies in Jammu. He cautioned that Kashmir if not addressed immediately would witness un imaginable and un controlled phase of unrest in coming years.Editor Kashmir Images Bashir Manzar while raising serious concerns over the intervention of the top BJP leadership and the incumbent Central Government into the working of the State Government warned that Kashmir if not addressed today would become a political volcano in the coming years.

Editor Kashmir Horizon Shafqat Bukhari while raising concerns over the peace initiatives on Kashmir said that disengagement with Pakistan and engagement with mainstream leadership in Srinagar won’t take India anywhere nearer to Kashmir resolution. Saying that people have lost faith in the mainstream leadership he said resistance leadership is the only stake holder in the current scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.Speaking on the occasion another Journalist Faisul Yaseen said that Kashmir’s political aspirations if not addressed properly could trigger a spontaneous movement of uncontrolled armed uprising in Kashmir.Speaking on the occasion a social activist Sheikh Sajad said that Central leadership has disempowered the mainstream political leadership as the decisions taken by the central government are imposed on the people of the State against whims and wishes of the Kashmiris.Meanwhile it has be learned that CPA team is likely to meet Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, National Conference working president Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami tomorrow.Sources said the CPA team is trying its best to contact JKLF chairman Yasin Malik for a meeting with him at his Maisuma residence.
