During first month of unrest, 1081 blood points transfused to injured, 784 donated by volunteers

In a heartwarming gesture, 784 volunteers donated blood for persons injured in forces action during first month of ongoing unrest in Kashmir.Official records accessed by KNS revealed that 1081 blood points were transfused to injured persons from July 9 to August 5, this year. “784 points were donated by volunteers across the valley while hospital provided 342 blood points from its blood banks,” reveals official data.According to data collected from various hospitals of valley, the large numbers of donators have come from Srinagar.In Srinagar, injured were transfused 825 blood points at SKIMS Soura, SKIMS Bemina, SMHS and Bone and Joint Hospital. Out of 825 blood points, 597 points were donated by local volunteers.In SMHS, 590 blood points were transfused to injured out of which 532 points were donated by volunteers and 58 points provided by hospital blood bank. More 228 volunteers have registered their names for blood donation at SMHS. These donors were urged to return as blood bank has not much capacity.In SKIMS, 200 blood points were transfused to injured out of which 50 points were donated by volunteers. Blood bank at SKIMS is having largest capacity to keep blood for needy and can contain 1000 blood points safe at a time. 

In this institution, large number of volunteers has also registered their names for donation of blood.In SKIMS Bemina, 72 points of blood were transfused to injured persons. Out of 72, 5 were given by volunteers and 67 provided by hospital.In Bone and Joint Hospital, 35 points of blood were transfused to injured out of which 10 points were donated by volunteers and 25 points provided by hospital. 250 volunteers have also registered their names in the hospital for blood donation.In south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Kulgam and Pulwama, 204 points of blood were transfused to injured persons out of which 156 points were donated by volunteers and 48 points provided by hospitals.In Kulgam, 20 points of blood were transfused to injured person out of which 12 points were given by volunteers. Similarly, in Anantnag 143 points of blood were transfused to injured person out of which 127 points were given by volunteers.In Pulwama 41 blood points were available which also include 12 points donated by volunteers. 

The district hospital Pulwama also hospital provided 15 points blood to LD hospital.“I have never seen such large number of volunteers coming forward for blood donation. This time, the blood donation by volunteers comprises both things, emotion and humanity,” said an official, wished not to be named.He informed that large number of volunteers have registered their names for blood donation.“We can keep the blood in blood banks as per their capacity. As there was no space for keeping more blood points, we urged volunteers to return after registering their names. We call them as and when required,” he added.The volunteers who donated blood for injured persons include youth, men and women. Large number of volunteers has also registered their names in blood banks and is ready to donate blood as and when required.The people from Kanimazar here donated 28 blood points for injured on July 12, this year, immediately after hearing the news about shifting of injured persons from other districts to territiary care. The volunteers include women also. In forces action, around 4000 persons have been injured while the death toll has reached 53. (KNS)
