National Conference on Saturday held massive demonstrations in Banihal against the failure of PDP-BJP government in meeting the situation in Kashmir and resorting to large scale arrests of youth across the Valley. In a statement issued to KNS, district President Ramban Sajjad Shaheen said while addressing the rally in the town “The situation is alarming even after nearly four months and no effort is being made to initiate credible dialogue with all stake-holders for addressing to the political issues.” He sought immediate end to repression unleashed by the insensitive coalition government and called for end to indiscriminate arrests in the Valley.Shaheen said the unprecedented situation in the Valley has impacted governance in the entire state with development coming to standstill and peoples’ problems accumulating. He expressed anguish over loss of life and saying that the unrest has taken toll of youth, who are deprived of much needed education. “Better part of the academic year has been lost and the government is making holding of examinations a prestige point instead of sorting out the issues with stakeholders”, he said.

The District President said that delay in restoring normalcy in the Valley can have serious ramifications and the PDP-BJP government must realise its responsibilities. “No serious effort has been made in initiating a dialogue process which the coalition partners had made their electoral plank”, Shaheen added. He also expressed concern over the agonies of border people due to continuous shelling and took the BJP head on for failing in raising bunkers and shelter sheds, in absence of which the residents of the forward areas are forced to run helter-skelter for safety. He said the people of both, Kashmir and the Jammu region are suffering due to wrong policies of the Centre and the state government.
