Police apprehends newly recruited militant in Sopore

Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant from Sopore town of north Kashmir in an operation on Thursday night.DIG North Kashmir Utam Chand while addressing a presser said that: “on a specific information regarding the presence of LeT militants in the general area of Shirpora Tujarsharief, Police Sopore and the contingent of 22-RR and CRPF launched cordon and search operation on Thursday evening at Shirpora Tujar Sharief.”

“The presence of a local militant was established in one of the houses. The militant was asked to lay down his arms and ammunition and come out from the house. Initially the house owner was sent to persuade the holed up militant and later on he was made to speak to senior Police officers present on spot. Ultimately the militant was identified as Umar Khaliq Mir alias Sameer of Tujarsharief Sopore. His father alongwith other respectable of the area went to the house to persuade the holed up militant to surrender, who ultimately laid down his arms and ammunition and came out from the house and was apprehended,” he said adding that some arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession.“A case vide FIR number 142/2016 under section 7/25 Arms Act has been registered in Police Station Bomai,” Utam Chand said  adding that apprehended militant had joined militant ranks in May this year.
