The United Nations (UN), Under Secretary General and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar met the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju here today. During the meeting, Shri Kiren Rijiju said that it is honour for India to host the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) this year. The MoS also said that the UN agencies play a very important role in the successful organisation of such events. He said that the countries are not capable of tackling disasters alone, so they need larger coordination and cooperation at the regional and international level. He said that India is a large and developing country and it requires support from international organisations like United Nations to tackle disasters. Shri Kiren Rijiju appreciated the participation of UN, Under Secretary General and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP in the ongoing AMCDRR conference.
