A workshop cum training programme was today organized to impart training to the officials of working groups created at district and block level to run Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Geo tagging of assets created under MGNREGA scheme.The workshop was organized by Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Udhampur where at the chief guest District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Niraj Kumar also announced launching of Geo MGNREGA in the district.Addressing the participants, the DDC said that assets or facilities created under the MGNREGA scheme in each panchayat will now be geo-tagged along with photographs of the facility through a partnership between Ministry of Rural Development and ISRO. He said that Geo-tagging assets will allow the government to enforce better monitoring, recording, and terrain mapping for future development works.He appreciated the RDD for holding such workshop and stressed upon the participants to gain maximum information and acquaint themselves well about generating accurate date on the portal. He further instructed field functionaries of Rural Development Department to sensitize people of their respective Panchayats regarding the programme.During the workshop cum training programme, Assistant Commissioner Development gave brief detail of the Geo MGNREGA. He directed the participants to ensure geo tagging of assets created under MGNREGA to enhance transparency, ease identification and monitoring. Technical knowhow of geo tagging was given to the participants through power point presentation on the occasion.Among others present were Joint Director Planning, Mr. Rakesh Jamwal, Assistant Commissioner Development, Mr. Joginder Rai, Block Development Officers, Engineers of RDD, GRS and Computer Operators of all block attended the workshop.
