Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh today flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon being organised countrywide to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.Hundreds of enthusiastic people participated in the marathon which started from heritage complex Mubarak Mandi and after passing through old city areas culminated at Parade Ground.Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi, Senior  Leader Yudhvir Sethi, Commissioner JMC Manmohan Singh, Joint Commissioner JMC R S Jamwal, members of Civil Society, prominent citizens also participated in the Run. Deputy Chief Minister, while addressing the gathering, said that the aim of introducing this event is to pay tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary and remember the extraordinary contribution made by him towards unity and integrity of post independence India.

“By remembering this great leader the new generation will be made aware about the work done by him for promoting national integration and maintaining the unity and integrity of the country” Dy CM asserted. He said the participation of citizens in the events like this is imperative for making India a world power as the strength of a nation lies in unity of her people.Deputy Chief Minister also read out a pledge of unity before flagging off the “Run for Unity” and asked the citizens to   abide by the pledge.The ‘Run for Unity’ culminated at the Parade Ground where it was welcomed by Parade Sports Association.Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day was introduced by the Government of India in 2014 with the aim of celebrating this event every year on 31st October.Priya Sethi in her address said that celebration of this occasion annually has helped youth to understand the value of unity for the progress and prosperity of India. “This event has made Indian citizens to realize how national integration will help in defeating the actual and potential threats to the unity and security of India” she added.NO:
