Dowry system and female foeticide is major curse the modern society is facing. We have pledged to ruthlessly eradicate these social evils from the society. All the channel partners including religious leaders, social organizations and educational institutions would be brought on a common platform to launch a crusade against these social evils.It was announced by  Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Member of Parliament and Patron, ‘Nanni Chhan’ campaign during delivering a key note address at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran to kick start campaign against the social evils. She was here to inaugurate Privartan-2012, a campaign under the aegis of ‘Nanni Chhan’ to sensitize the students about their role against the social evils prevalent in the society. More than 19 thousand student of different educational institutions took the pledge and gave written assurance to  Badal for working this movement whole heartedly.  Badal lauded the efforts of the organizers for organizing such a splendid two day Privartan-2012 function. Badal said that every religion on the earth persuaded respect for the female folk and dissuaded female foeticide. She further said that the decreasing number of girl child in the society is indicator of the escalation of crime against female folk. She said that the worsen situation could be gauged from the statistics presented in Parliament, which narrated that in every 15 minutes a woman is being victimized, a rape is committed in every 20 minutes and a woman is kidnapped in every half an hour. This situation is serious blot on the face of Indian society. She said that the time, when parents considered their girl child a burden to them, has become history. Now, the girls are advancing in every field and scaling the peaks surpassing males.While describing the efforts being made by the Punjab Government for the welfare of woman folk,  Badal said that 2,000 lady constables have recently been recruited. Now, there would not be any police station in the state sans lady police officer. She said that the Punjab Government has resolved that crime against women could not be tolerated at any cost. She exhorted the youth to come forward and launch united efforts to eliminate all such evils from the society. Badal further added that she has opened 100 knitting and tailoring centers in Bathinda region through her own financial resources, so that the socially deprived girls could be made self-reliant. She said that the sewing machines had been distributed free of cost to the needy girls for this purpose.She also persuaded the students to plant more and more tree to make their atmosphere pollution free. She said that under ‘Nanni Chhan’ Campaign free saplings are being distributed to the people besides sensitizing them against social evils like; female foeticide and dowry.Earlier speaking on the occasion, Balwant Singh Ramuwalia, District Incharge, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) applauded the efforts being done under ‘Nanni Chhan’ campaign to fairly improve the male-female sex ratio in the state.

Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairperson, Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran welcomed  Badal. He assured her that their institution would play the proactive role for sensitizing the young brigade against social evils. A play, undermining female foeticide ‘Maan Mainu Naa Mareen’ was staged by the students and cultured extravaganza was also presented by the students. Badal also gave away the prizes to the students, who have excelled in academics and sports.Other dignitaries present on the occasion included;  Amanjot Kaur Ramuwalia, National General Secretary, Woman wing of SAD, Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President of Institution, Lakhmir Singh, SDM, SAS Nagar.
