The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences on Thursday held 43rd meeting of Governing Body.The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.

The highlights of the meeting are as under:-

1. It will be a great relief for general public as it was decided that 90% of the charges will be waived off on behalf of Chief Minister and only 10% charges will be charged from the patients on account of registration, investigations, treatment, etc. This will have effect once a proper system for delivering this service will be developed electronically. 

2. A Scheme of cashless care at SKIMS will be opened up for general public. Under this Scheme, public will contribute little amount of money on monthly basis towards SKIMS and, in return, treatment facilities to the tune of Rs.1.00 lac will be provided free. Details with regard to the Scheme and its laws/bylaws will be worked out very soon. 

3. Installation of PET CT Scan and Cyclotron at AERB approved safe place has been discussed and, in this regard, Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, J&K has been directed to liaise with Atomic Energy Regulatory Board for necessary action, etc. on fast-track mode.

4. Principal approval has been granted for Trauma/Emergency Medicine Centre and Cardio-Neuro Centre as “Centres of Excellence “at SKIMS.

5. Long pending demand of faculty regarding pay anomaly has finally been considered and necessary process regarding the issue will be initiated very soon in lineage with AIIMS, New Delhi. 

6. Proposal regarding enhancement of retiring age of SKIMS faculty and staff has been rejected and it has been stressed that fresh blood be given chance for Government employment.

7. Long pending issue of faculty of SKIMS with regard to Sabbatical Leave to upgrade their skills by working across the globe has finally been addressed.

8. Like any other faculty member of SKIMS, Nurses, Para-Medical & other supportive staff and Gazetted staff will be given a chance to attend National Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, etc. to upgrade their skills and to build their capacity. 

9. Prof. M.S. Khursoo, Member, Governing Body has been assigned the task of studying the model of “Mobile SKIMS” in-depth and give his recommendations at the earliest.

10. Issue of regularization of Adhoc employees has been discussed and the case has been referred to Finance Department for further examination. 

11. Issue of regularization of Casual Labourers has been discussed and the case has been referred to Finance Department for further examination. 

12. Approval has been granted to utilize Junior Resident posts of SKIMS to hire Senior Residents for better patient care activities. 

13. Regarding pending construction work of Maternity Hospital at SKIMS, it has been advised to seek a report from JKPCC and it has been also decided that further construction work will be taken up by SKIMS Engineering Wing. 

14. Medical Superintendent’s powers have been restored back. 

15. Appointment of Prof. A.G. Ahangar as Director SKIMS & Ex-Officio Secretary to Govt. of J&K was graciously ratified by the Governing Body of SKIMS for a period of five years or till he reaches the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. (KNS)
