District Development Commissioner  Mohammad Aijaz  today flagged off a mobile van of Horticulture department fitted with modern instruments to  test  about 1300 soil samples across the district in its three days operation from Batote to Banihal.A team of experts and scientists shall examine the nature of soil to identify the major and minor types of nutrients available in soil and accordingly educate the farmers to develop the system of farming strictly as per adaptability and potential of soil. The well designed scientific way of testing shall enable the farmers to supply exact quantity and type of nutrients to their fields.District Development Commissioner instructed the officers and field functionaries for making possible efforts to reach out to the inaccessible areas and stressed on better synergy between Horticulture and Agriculture department so  that Soil Health Cards are issued to the farmers well in time.Earlier, Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO) Lokesh Kumar Bali informed  that agriculture department has already taken up the process of testing soil following the launch and implementation of Soil Health Card Scheme. In Ramban the department has fixed the targets of covering 2438 soil samples out of which 1934 have been tested in Agriculture testing laboratory Ramban.Similar types of mobile vans have been pressed into service in other districts to know about the fertility status of soil so that better production can be fetched from the fields and orchids.Such comprehensive and modern type of testing was not undertaken in previous time at grass root level.
