In continuation with Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) campaign, District Administration Kathua today held a walkathon at Lakhahnpur.The event was part of series of activities being held in the district under ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ and flagged off by Deputy Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar from government high school Lakhanpur. Scores of students of government and private schools holding placards and enchanting slogans like ‘Na Main Gandagi Karunga Na Main Gandagi Karne Dunga’ (I would not litter and wont allow anyone to do so) passed through lanes and bazaars of the Lakhanpur municipal areas to spread the message of cleanliness and its essence.Later, the DC along with officers and officials of district administration participated in ‘Shram Daan’ under which the area around the Lakahnpur Toll Plaza was cleaned. The area with massive concentration of weeds and bushes was cleaned. The DC led the initiative and stressed on inculcating the habit of ‘Shram Daan’ on regular basis.
While highlighting the activities undertaken under the campaign, the DC said the activities related to educating people about the cleanliness has been undertaken across the district at all levels. He appealed students and prominent citizens to be torchbearer of Swachhta campaign. “We must understand that to clean our surroundings and cleanliness is not only the responsibility of Safai Karamchari, but every citizen”he asserted. He lauded the media persons for supporting this campaign.Pertinent to mention here that Swachhta Pakhwada is being observed from October 1 to October 15 2016 to hold cleanliness drives in market places, Anganwadi centres, health institutions, water bodies and educational institutions besides sensitizing people about the importance of cleanliness by holding special gram sabhas, rallies, campaigns.
