Pampore gunfight : Operation against militant continue

After February 48 hours gunfight inside the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) building located in South Kashmir’s Pampore town, one more gunfight raged there on Monday when a group of two to three militants occupied it.Police sources told news agency CNS that two to three militants occupied the building but their presence was confirmed only after they fired on a fire tender. “The portion of a building was in flames on Monday morning. When fire tenders were busy in putting out the fire, they came under fire from the militants hiding inside the building. Shortly after the incident, government forces cordoned off the area and zeroed in on the building,” said a police official.Defence sources said that that the militants fired at the forces injuring a cop and an army man. Defence sources identified the wounded army jawan as Naik Rohit Roy from 311 Gorkha Regiment. “During the day long gun fight, the militants hiding inside the building kept on changing their positions. They fired continuously from floor 7 of the building,” said an official.

   Sources added that Army used IEDs and rockets to blast the building. Witnesses said that flames and smoke were seen billowing from the EDI building following the sound of IED blasts. The gun fight was going on till the filing of this report. (CNS)
