Day 90 : shutdown continues in Valley, restrictions in old city areas

Restrictions and shutdown continued on the 90th consecutive day in Kashmir while the reports of clashes were reported from few areas during the day.Meanwhile, the educational institutes, business establishments continued to remain closed.However, the uptown areas of Srinagar and commercial Hub Lal Chowk continued to witness considerable movement of traffic. Dozens of street vendors at Hari Singh High Street had also installed their cart and were selling essential goods.Meanwhile, reports said that huge deployments of forces were made in Saida Kadal and Hassan Abad areas in Old Srinagar.Reports quoting local residents of Hassan Abad said that forces were deployed across the area. “We were not allowed to come out of our homes,” a resident said.

The residents said that a Muharram procession was scheduled to be taken out from Ashai Bagh Bridge. “But the forces didn’t allow the procession to take place,” he said.Meanwhile, reports of minor clashes were received from few areas in Kashmir.According to KNS correspondent, minor clashes erupted between youth and forces in Habba Kadal are of Srinagar.The reports of minor clashes were reported from a few other Old city areas during the day.Meanwhile, the residents of Magam Batapora Kanihama alleged that a peaceful protest was organized by the students in the area but forces used pellets to disperse them during which at least ten students sustained injuries.The residents told KNS that as soon as the students tried to march outside the village, forces used pellets to disperse the protesting students in which ten students sustained injuries and were shifted to hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, the situation across the valley remained normal today and there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere.The Statement said that with the improvement in overall situation there was a quantum increase in the day to day activities across the Valley. “Increased volume of private as well as public traffic was seen on roads across the valley,” it said adding the shops were open and a large number of vendors were seen on the roads lanes and by lanes.The statement said that in its continuous and sustained drive against the trouble mongers, police during last 24 hours arrested 77 such people involved in various offences of disturbing public order in different parts of the valley.
