Six arrested in West Bengal for beating up police personnel

Six tourists, including two women, have been arrested for allegedly beating up police personnel in West Bengal's coastal resort Mandarmani, police said on Tuesday.The tourists apparently got enraged when coastal guards stopped them from going near the sea on Monday as they were drunk."They came to Mandarmani in a group of six. At around 4 p.m. on Monday, they went to bathe in the sea but were stopped by the coastal guards on duty, as they were drunk," said Partha Biswas, OC of Mandarmani coastal police station in East Midnapore district."They fell out with the guards over this issue and badly beat up one of our lady constables. She had to be hospitalised," he added. The prime accused Anirban Kundu and Mohit Singh, both in their mid 20s, were accompanied by their wives, a relative and a family friend.In a separate incident, the accused also allegedly beat up the manager of the hotel they were residing in.All six of them have been slapped with various charges including obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions (IPC 186), voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty (IPC 333) and criminal intimidation (IPC 506), police said.
