Former interlocutor Radha Kumar Thursday said that implementation of recommendations made by them would have contributed a lot to avoid present unrest in Kashmir. She said that the present unrest, if somehow comes to an end, can re-erupt anytime in case the union and state government would not address the issues of people of the state.“The present situation in Kashmir would have been different in case government of India would have acted upon at least on some of the recommendations, made by a team of interlocutors in 2010,” she told KNS over phone.“Kashmir has witnessed such public uprising in 2008, 2010 and now in 2016. It is necessary to address the issues to avoid any such unrest in future,” she said.“If present unrest, somehow, comes to an end, doesn’t mean all is well in the state. I have no doubt that such uprisings are certain to erupt again in future if issues remained unaddressed,” she added.

She said that government and Hurriyat must come across the table. “Government must initiative dialogue with Hurriyat and JKLF leaders. There must be also an indication from Hurriyat and JKLF that they are ready for talks,” she said while replying to a query. She said that team of interlocutors had made recommendations pertaining to economic, social, cultural and other concerns and aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Radha Kumar was a member of team of interlocutors headed by Dilip Padgoankar, after 2010 unrest in Kashmir. The team produced its recommendations before the then Home Minister P Chidambaram on October 12, 2011.“I think, the way out to address the issues of people is to; initiative four parallel things; political process, stop human rights violations, good governance and administration, to provide sense in public that government and administration is accountable before the public and freeing the economy,” she said while replying to a query.“I have no doubt that the present situation in Kashmir would have been different if government of India would have acted upon the some of the recommendations made by the team of interlocutors which visited the state in 2010,” she told KNS.Speaking about the recent visit by All Party Delegation led by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to Kashmir, he said: “There are already recommendations before the government of India pertaining to political, social, economical and cultural and other concerns and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Both union and state governments have to look into them. Central and state government must implement some of recommendations on priority.” (KNS)
