Amid unrest in Kashmir, the 651st Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA) popularly known as Shah-e-Hamdan and Amir-e-Kabir was Friday observed at Khanqah Moula in old Srinagar city with religious fervor and enthusiasm.Notably, the Urs is observed on 6th of Zil Hijjah every year.

Syed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hamadani Abidi (1314-1384) also known as “Shah Hamdan” (King of Hamadan) and as Amir-i Kabir (the Great Commander) was a Persian Sufi and a prominent Muslim scholar. He was very influential in spreading Islam in Kashmir and had a major hand in shaping the culture of the Kashmir valley.Thousands of devotees including men, women, children and old thronged the shrine where they offered Fridaycongregational prayers and recited verses of Holy Qur’an, which was followed by Duaiya Majlis.A devotee told KNS said, “Special prayers were also held for those who were killed or maimed since past 64 days in Kashmir.”

According to KNS correspondent, the Islamic clerics shed light on the life and achievements of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA).They expressed hope that the teachings of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA) shall remain alive in all times to come. With the ongoing uprising in Kashmir, the people from several Srinagar outskirts failed to throng the shrine due to non-availability of public transport and restrictions imposed by the state government.

However, the devotees told KNS that the arrangements made by the administration for the devotees were disappointing as they face tremendous hardships due to the non-seriousness of authorities. It is worth to mention here that the Urs of Shah Hamdhan (RA) was also observed with religious fervor and enthusiasm at Khankah Faizpanah Tral, Jinab Sahab Soura, Aasar Sharif Kalashpora, Kabamarg and Khiram Sirhama in Anantnag, Dooru Seer Hamdan, Aham Sharif Bandipora, Budgam, Kupwara and Bandipora.
