The Information and Public Relations Minister, Punjab, Bikram Singh Majithia has strongly condemned and regretted the lathi charge by the police on the journalists at Amritsar.In a press statement issued here, Majithia said that he is very saddened by this act and such attacks on the press would not be tolerated. He said that the government has taken the journalists’ in high esteem and would always protect their rights.Reiterating his resolve to provide safe environment to the media persons in order to protect the freedom of press, Mr. Majithia disclosed that he has directed the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar to meet the President of the Chandigarh Punjab Journalist Association Mr. Jasbir Singh Patti to inquire into the matter and send report within two days.
