District Administration Jammu in collaboration with Department of Youth Sports and Services is going to organize inter-school sports meet.This was stated by the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh while chairing a meeting of heads of various government and private schools.It was informed in the meeting that the event would be held in the month of October under aegis of ‘School Olympics-2016’. The entries for the event will be entertained by or before September 14 through e-mail or by hand.The DC said that this six day event would also have opening and closing ceremonies. He maintained that the school getting the highest number of points based on total medals won will win the overall championship trophy.The DC appealed all the schools of the district to prepare their students for participating in this sports meet. He said the event has been organised with the aim to provide young sportsperson a platform to showcase their talent and prepare themselves for national and international competitions, especially girls who shined in the recent Rio Olympics.The School Olympics would include matches in Kabaddi, Wrestling, Football, Hockey, Volleyball Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Athletics and Marathon.Besides others, Principals and representatives of various government and private schools were present in the meeting.
