Taking a step forward towards making Punjab an open defecation Free State, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today asked the officers to expedite the process of providing toilet in each household in every district at the earliest.Presiding over a meeting with the officers of Water Supply and Sanitation department here at Punjab Bhawan this afternoon, the Chief Minister said that the state government has set a target of constructing 7.90 lakh toilets in the state with a view to make state totally defecation free.Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing pace of work for constructing these toilets, he said that these toilets would benefit the people both individually and socially besides providing a hygienic environment in the state. Mr. Badal asked the officers to ensure that these toilets were constructed well in time so that public especially from the rural areas could be immensely benefitted from it.The Chief Minister said that during Sangat Darshan programmes he has personally observed that people were satisfied by the ongoing work on these toilets. However, he said that the need of the hour was to expedite the pace of work so that the target of making state an open defecation free was achieved at the earliest. Mr. Badal also asked the officers to also include the newly constructed colonies for weaker and underprivileged sections in the villages under the scheme to provide potable drinking water and toilet facility.The Chief Minister was apprised in the meeting that construction work of these toilets was going on in full swing and Sri Fathegarh Sahib was the only district which had already completed the entire work by fully covering 1490 villages within its jurisdiction. Likewise, it was informed that by the end of current fiscal 12 more districts of state including Moga, Ludhiana, Mansa, Faridkot, Bathinda, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and others would also achieve 100% completion target by the end of current fiscal.Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Cabinet Minister Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra, Secretary Water Supply and Sanitation Mr. AK Sinha and Special Secretary DWSS Mr. Abhinav Trikha.
