CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday urged the government to initiate talks with Pakistan to address India's concerns.“The government must start talking to Pakistan and see that India's concerns are addressed through this process,” Yechury said here after meeting a delegation of leaders of opposition parties from Kashmir.Ties between India and Pakistan have soured, more recently after unrest in the Kashmir Valley where at least 68 people have been killed in firing by security forces. India has blamed Pakistan for stoking the trouble in the valley. For bringing an end to the unrest in the valley, Yechury recommended that the central government should start a political process with “all sections of Kashmiri society”, hinting that the government should talk to separatists also.“The government must immediately send signals in the (Kashmir) Valley to bolster and build confidence among the people,” Yechury said in a statement after meeting the delegation led by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He also urged the government to stop using pellet guns against Kashmiri protestors. Pellets have injured thousands in the valley, partially or fully blinding hundreds of them. The CPI-M leader also recommended removal of special powers given to armed forces to fight militants in Jammu and Kashmir.
