Residents of main town Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Wednesday said that their life is under constant threat due to the presence of overhead high tension wires that are lying low and touching the roof tops of their residential houses. They said that the 11,000KV high tension wires that are passing above their houses could cause any major damage to humans and the property.“The high tension wires are hanging very low and almost touching the roof tops. The line has suffered extensive damage at many places and if it break down at any moment can cause huge damage,” a delegation of locals said adding “This is threat for around 5,000 households of the town”

“We many times raised this issue with the officials of the Power Development Department (PDD) but they turned deaf ears to our repeated pleas,” they said.Students and teachers of a local school here are aghast over the callous attitude of the concerned department for relocating the high tension cables.“This high tension line is crossing through our school premises and poses a grave danger to the life of students and employees of the educational institution,” said a teacher. The HT line passes through main town Uri originates from grid station Salmabad and supplies electricity to villages like Garkote, Nambla Hathlanga, Syedpora, Silikote and many others.Superintendent Engineer PDD Sopore, Daljit Singh told CNS that they don’t have any other routes to place the HT wires.
