Curfew, shutdown continues on 33rd day in Valley

Barring few stone pelting incidents, situation remained under control: Police

Curfew and restrictions continued on 33rd consecutive day on Wednesday in Kashmir while the protests and clashes were reported from several areas against the civilian killings in Kashmir.A top police official told KNS that curfew and restrictions remained in force in several districts including Kulgam, Anantnag, Pulwama, in parts of Srinagar  and in other areas to thwart any possible protests against the civilian killings in Kashmir. Witnesses told KNS that a large contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF troopers were deployed on roads and streets and had erected concertina wires at most entry and exit points in several localities.According to KNS correspondent, clashes erupted between youth and forces in Ka Sarai area of Srinagar. “Scores of youth were pelting stones on forces who in return fired tear gas canisters to disperse them,” witnesses said.Reports said that Batamaloo area of Srinagar remained under strict curfew as its adjoining locality Tengpora witnessed pro-freedom protests.Reports said that huge deployment of forces was deployed in Batamaloo which witnessed intense clashes on Tuesday, adding that scores of youth were also injured last evening.Meanwhile, reports coming from Tengpora area said that announcements were made on loud speakers early today asking people to come to on roads.“Hundreds of people held pro-freedom protests,” reports said, “they tried to march towards By-Pass but were disallowed by forces already deployed in the area.”

Meanwhile, as per KNS correspondent, residents of Chota Bazar and Mehjoor Nagar offered Asr prayers on roads to protest against the civilian killings in Kashmir.The residents of both the areas decided to offer Asr prayers on roads to mark protest against the civilian killings from past 33 days.The residents of Chota Bazar amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans also staged protest against the civilian killings.Similarly, the residents of South Kashmir observed complete shutdown while the protests rallies were carried out in some places to protests against killings.Instead of assembling on roads, in playgrounds or in another vacant land, the protest rally in Bijbehara was carried out in another innovative ide.

Over a hundred of protesters held pro-freedom rally from Wurranhal to Pazalpora in river Jhelum.While holding Pak flags and chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, the protesters rowed boats in Jhelum to mark a protest against the civilian killings in Kashmir.Meanwhile, thousands of people attended a pro-freedom rally in South Kashmir’s Padgampora.

Reports said that thousands of people marched towards Dangerpora, Padgampora in Awantipora belt today and took participation in pro-freedom rally, which was held in Eidgah.“People from Pulwama villages including Barsoo, Lethpora, Lelhaar and other places reached Dangerpora this morning,” reports said.Meanwhile, reports of protest rally were reported from Qaimoh area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district as well.However, reports of clashes were reported from North Kashmir district on today.Six persons were reportedly injured in clashes that erupted between youth and forces in Lalpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.Reports quoting hospital sources said that the injured persons were discharged after first aid.Meanwhile, reports said that residents of Kehnusa area of north Kashmir's Bandipora staged a protest against alleged excesses by the army.

The protestors blocked Bandipora-Sopore highway, demanding action against the “erring” army officials.The protestors alleged that army barged into their homes during midnight and beat up inmates without any provocation.

However, reports quoting police official said that they met with the villagers and resolved the matter. “The villagers are satisfied now,” police official said.Kashmir’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Javaid Mujtaba Gillani said that barring few incidents of stone pelting by miscreants, the overall situation in the valley remained normal and under control. “Although restrictions under section 144/CrPC remained in force in the Valley, curfew was imposed in some parts of Srinagar and Anantnag town only,” he said.He said that about 300 miscreants assembled near Sangrama in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo, Sopore and started pelting stones on the police party. “Later on they were chased away by using mild force,” he said.IGP Kashmir said that miscreants about 50 assembled near Lassipora area of Sogam, Kupwara and tried to block the Kupwara-Sogam road by pelting stones on the civilian vehicles. “In order to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic, the Police/Security forces chased the miscreants away. One person Shabir Ahmad Lone resident of Lassipora was injured. He was shifted to District Hospital Kupwara for treatment. His condition is stated to be stable,” he said.He said that about 500 miscreants assembled near village Qaimoh, Kulgam and started pelting stones on the deployment.“In Srinagar a group of miscreants pelted stones on security force deployments near Tatoo ground and Noor Bagh and tried to disrupt the flow of civilian traffic. They were chased away,” IGP said. (KNS)
