In the absence of Amritsar’s MP and PPCC Chief Captain Amarinder Singh in the Lok Sabha, Sangrur MP of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Bhagwant Mann today strongly raked up the issues related to the farmers of border area belt of Punjab.Apart from farmers’ issues, Mann also raised the demand of safe corridor to the historic Gurudwara of Kartarpur Sahib across the international border in Pakistan, so that devotees could visit the shrine to pay obeisance without any hassles.While speaking in the Parliament, Mann said “Across the fence at international border, there is huge chunk of agriculture land of farmers and they are denied cultivation of sugarcane, cotton and sunflower on their land. He demanded compensation to the farmers of this land at the rate of Rs 2500 per acre and Rs 7000 per acre, as announced by the Centre and State Government respectively.He revealed that there are at least 15 to 20 villages across the Ravi River and people of these areas are forced to send their wards for studies while crossing the river on temporary arrangements, Mann said adding that such people should be provided at least the basic amenities, which they deserve.
