Normal life was completely disrupted for the 12th consecutive day across Kashmir Valley as amid strict curfew people observed a ‘Black Day’ to protest civilian killings by government forces. Extra security measures had been put in place to stop protests. Besides, Old Srinagar city all the district of Valley reeled under curfew on Wednesday. Mobile telephony and mobile Internet services also remained shut while newspapers failed to hit stands for fifth day.A police official said that at least three youth were wounded after Army men from 55 RR opened fire on protesters at Batnoor Lassipora area of Pulwama district. He said that protesters had blocked the road and they attacked army vehicles with stones. The injured have been shifted to hospital,” he said.An elderly man from North Kashmir’s Lolab succumbed to his injuries at SMHS Srinagar. Identified as Ghulam Muhammad Mir, he was reportedly hit by bullet in Khumriyal area of Lolab valley in Kupwara district. He was 50. With his death the toll touched 46 including a policeman.

Reports said that people in South Kashmir organized number of protest marches against the killings of 3 civilians including a woman by Army on Monday evening. Eyewitnesses said that people in processions from different hamlets including Kudigam, Mandhol, Banghal, Kund, Kelam, Habhlashi flocked in the houses of slain persons in Chorut Chowgam area of Qazigund. Amid pro-freedom slogans the protesters at Kudigam attacked CRPF bunker with stones while in retaliation, the Para-military troopers fires some smoke-shells to disperse them.Reports said that two youth Asif Ahmed Sheikh son of Abdul Rasheed Sheikh and Arafat Shafi son of Muhammad Shafi who had suffered pellet injuries on Tuesday evening were shifted to SKIMS Srinagar. The duo and the another youth Wasik Farooq had been injured after CRPF used pellet guns to disperse protesters at Batapora Khanabal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.At Shilwat Sumbal area of Bandipora district, people took out a procession denouncing the civilian killings. People blocked roads and chanted pro-freedom slogans. Stone pelting incidents were reported from Delina Baramulla, Shempora Qazigund and Rajourikadal Srinagar. (CNS)
