The Congress on Wednesday asked Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to intervene in the ongoing tussle between the journalists and the lawyers that turned violent on Tuesday evening. In a statement issued here, state Congress president V.M. Sudheeran said: "There has been unrest between the journalists and the lawyers and things will go out of hand if you (Chief Minister) do not intervene immediately." It all began after media reports that a government pleader had misbehaved with a lady. The lawyers claimed that the pleader was falsely implicated, and the police and media are hand in glove in the conspiracy. On Tuesday evening, there was an altercation between the journalists and the lawyers over the issue at the Kerala High Court. The lawyers locked up the room meant for the media persons in the high court building and this aggravated the situation. When the situation got worse, the police rushed to the spot and resorted to lathicharge. Television cameras of journalists were damaged in the melee. Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala spoke to acting Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and wished that the standoff between the journalists and lawyers ended.
