JK Editors Association condemns gag on media

Jammu Kashmir Editors Association has castigated State Government for using its all resources to curb and muzzle the voice of media. It has condemned the raids on media houses and detention of staffers saying that such tactics on part of the present government is aimed at to hide its failures.As per a statement Jammu Kashmir Editors Association president Rasheed Rahi while presiding a meeting said that job of the media is to reflect the situation on ground while government through its suppressive tactics doesn’t want truth should reach to the people. “We demand that ban should be lifted immediately and the media particularly the print media should be allowed to function smoothly and unhindered. Also, the maiming of media should be stopped,” the statement reads.Pertinently, local newspapers failed to hit the stands for the third consecutive day in curfew-bound Kashmir. No dailies-English, Urdu and Kashmiri -- were available as the newspaper- owners decided not to publish them after authorities raided some media houses and seized their printed copies.
