A youth was killed in Hutmulla Kupwara  on Saturday taking death toll to 41 civilians. Authorities had imposed strict curfew across Kashmir to diffuse the violent situation, however, amid curfew protesters clashed with forces resulting in the death of a protester.Reports said that one person was killed when protesters attacked a police post in Hatmullah area of Kupwara district. In retaliation,one person was killed and two injured in the incident, a police official said. With this the death toll in the violence that followed the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani has mounted to 42 (including one policeman) while  over 3000 persons including 1,500 security personnel have been injured.A police official identified the slain youth as Showkat Ahmed Malik. He added that few cops were also injured during the clash.Minor minor protests were staged in some parts of the Valley but the protesters were chased away by security personnel who resorted to baton charge, the official said.At Khumriyal Kupwara clashes were reported in which a youth was injured.

CNS reporter informed that strict curfew was in place in old Srinagar city while in Civil Lines areas there was no restriction on the movement though all the shops and business establishments remained shut.Locals from Brein Nishat alleged that Jammu Kashmir Armed Police ransacked many houses and beat up inmates when some youths aired patriotic numbers from the loud speakers of local Masjid. They further alleged that Armed Police lobbed tear-smoke shells into the premises of some houses creating panic in the area. People took to streets and staged massive protest against the forces personnel.The situation in South Kashmir remained peaceful as according to reports strict curfew was in vogue. A police official said that situation remained peaceful in almost all the parts of Kashmir Valley. (CNS)
