Burhan killing aftermGovernment forces today shot dead one more youth during post-Friday protests in Kupwara district of south Kashmir against ongoing ‘killing spree’ that raged after the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, taking the death toll of civilian to 38.Eyewitnesses said the army troopers opened fire when ‘violent protests’ were going on at Izgund village of Kupwara district after Friday prayers amid unprecedented shutdown. The witnesses said that the troopers firing resulted in on-spot death of one Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai son of Muhammad Ahsan Ganai resident of Kalaroos while three others were injured, one of them identified as Ashiq Hussain Bhat is critical.The forces also opened fire on protesters at Drugmulla in Kupwara resulting in injuries t 17 persons, out of which five are stated to be critical and one of them were identified as Showkat Magray. The locals alleged that an army helicopter opened fire on them and lobbed shells. Locals alleged forces smashed windowpanes of houses at Drugmulla. The forces opened fire after people from people Muqamashah Wali, Gund, Watarkhani, Nagri, Hatmulla.

Twelve persons sustained injuries in forces action at Regipora Kupwara and Malik Mohalla Kupwara. Earlier people from Kunanposhpora, Tiker, Zurhama and Bahipora and marched up to Regipora. Meanwhile, three persons were injured when army opened fire at Darpora. At Kralgund, one protester was injured police action.At Hajin area of Bandipora district, two persons were injured after forces open pellet gunfire on them. Two other protesters were also injured at Tappar in Pattan area of Baramulla district. In Batapora area of Sopore, four persons were injured in pellet gunfire of forces. Four persons, one of them critically, were injured in forces action at Yaripora Kulgam during protests after Friday prayers.The clashes also erupted at Bogam, Tral, Bijbehera, Trenz, Namlebal Pampore, Qaimoh, Litter, Shivpora, Baramulla and dozen other areas. Not only Kashmir, the protests also erupted at Rajouri, Poonch and neighbouring Pakistan as well as Pakistan Administered Kashmir.

Meanwhile, a strict curfew was imposed across Kashmir Valley to thwart possible protests in view of Friday. The cellular services were snapped while data services continue to remain suspended and only BSNL postpaid services were working.Due to strict curfew, no Friday prayers could be offered at Jamia Masjid Srinagar as forces didn’t allow people to come out of their houses to proceed towards the grand mosque. People from Srinagar areas and several other areas said the forces disallowed them to move towards mosques to offer Friday prayers.Meanwhile, a senior Police officer told news agency GNS that militants strike in two separate places at Natnoosa and Lolab areas of frontier kupwara district.“ Militants lobbed a grenade towards a CRPF party resulting in injury to five of its men and militants fired upon police party in Lolab area resulting injuries to cops”, a senior police officer said.He further a youth injured in Khumriyal area while forces dealing with law and order situation. The injured was hospitalized however he succumbed to injuries. (GNS)
