Ludhiana College of Engineering and Technology organised site visit of civil Engineering students to construction site of Boys and Girls Hostel at Punjab Agricultural University. Students were given useful knowledge about construction materials like various types of aggregates, sand and various grades of concrete and steel, also different types of foundations were explained briefly in addition to construction technology and design of the building was explained by Er. Gurpreet Singh, SDO PAU.Students later, learnt about the raft foundation and the footings and the technique of bar binding and concreting also. Students were detailed about the steel shuttering and the levelling of shuttering. Steel binding of slab was also explained to them. As there was operational concrete batching at site, the working of it also explained to them.
Students visited under construction site where foundation work as well as Structural work was in progress.Students also visited the Water & Power Resources Museum of Northern India, the Department of Soil Science where they got information about various river sources, Dams sites and canals on the designed Model by Dr. Uppal an eminent Retired Chief Engineer Irrigation Punjab official and cleared their doubts about design and construction process at site.Chairman LCET Vijay Gupta said at the moment that such visits provide budding engineers practical information to gain necessary hands-on experience to become result oriented.
