Acting on the directions of Punjab’s Chief Minister, S. Parkash Singh Badal, the senior authorities of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Punjab here today under the chairpersonship of Principal Secretary Health, Ms Vini Mahajan, held a meeting with the representatives of the various private hospitals of Punjab empanelled under the Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojna. During the meeting Principal Secretary Health interacted with these empanelled hospitals and addressed their issues and queries on the spot. Mr Hussan Lal, Managing Director, Punjab Health Systems Corporation & National Health Mission, Punjab was also present.

Vini Mahajan stated that the reimbursement of claims to the empanelled hospitals was being made on the basis of their rate contract with the Insurance Company. If any difficulty is being faced by any of the empanelled hospitals at the end Insurance Company, they should bring the matter to the notice of senior officers of the health department immediately, so that the matter is resolved on priority. She, however also warned that if any empanelled hospital is found denying treatment to any beneficiary of the scheme or indulging in any other unfair practice, the same shall immediately be de-empanelled under scheme and further appropriate action shall be pursued against the erring hospital. She emphasized that any callous attitude in providing treatment to the beneficiaries will not be tolerated at any cost. She exhorted the empanelled hospitals to proactively provide adequate information about the scheme to the beneficiaries, so that issues of disagreement or grievance do not arise, while adding that issues only come up when inadequate information is given or query of any beneficiary is not addressed properly by the staff of private hospitals. She urged the hospitals to deploy dedicated and well trained staff for the purpose, who are fully aware of the scheme.

Ms. Vini Mahajan further reiterated that the BPSSBY scheme has been started by the Punjab Government to provide relief to the needy and it becomes the collective responsibility of the Government as well as the private empanelled hospitals to ensure that the people get maximum benefit of the scheme. Representatives of the hospitals present on the occasion assured the Principal Secretaryl, Health regarding full cooperation to the scheme from their end.Sh Hussan Lal on the occasion said that the beneficiary families enrolled under the scheme are entitled for cashless treatment of up to Rs 50,000/- per annum in any of the 257 private and 212 govt hospitals empanelled under the scheme, besides a financial assistance of Rs 5 Lakh in case of accidental death or permanent incapacitation of the head of family of any enrolled family. He said the scheme has been formulated by Punjab Govt to provide benefit to nearly 40 Lakh beneficiaries who include blue card holder families, farmers, traders, construction workers. Dr H.S.
