Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Decree) was observed across entire subcontinent and South Asia including Kashmir with religious gaiety and fervor. In this regard, the biggest religious gathering in Kashmir was held at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar in which tens of thousands of devotees from across the Valley including veiled women participated and stood awake all night in prayers seeking forgiveness for sins and acceptance of their supplications besides praying for the Islamic world’s peace prosperity and resolution of the problems Muslims across the world are caught in.On the occasion, MMU chief and Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while addressing the religious and spiritual gathering at Jamia Masjid shed light on the significance of Laylat al-Qadr, the revolutionary revelation of the holy Quran, and the message of holy Quran and urged Muslims to adopt the Islamic way of life.

Urging Muslims to understand the real message and philosophy of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, the Mirwaiz said while this month teaches to exhibit control over cravings of heart, it also provides an opportunity to come closer to Allah by being in supplication and prayers and taking benefit of its auspiciousness and blessings.Terming the challenges and problems that the Muslim Ummah was caught in today a cause of having deviated from the teachings of the holy book of Quran, he said the flawed and wrong understanding of the message of Islam and not following this message in letter and spirit were instrumental in the mess Muslims were entangled in worldwide.Stressing that without understanding the message of Quran and teachings of Islam and without implementing it in their lives, the Mirwaiz said Muslims could not witness prosperity and tackle their problems.

Referring to the ongoing situation in Kashmir, the Mirwaiz appealed the people of Kashmir to observe Eid al-Fitr with simplicity and austerity and urged them to make the poor and the destitute, the orphans and the needy part of their happiness on this religious festival. He said the message of Ramadan of being sympathetic toward one another, maintaining brotherhood and sacrificing for one another should be followed during the entire year so that reforms in society are brought in the real sense by eradicating social evils. On the occasion, the Mirwaiz while terming unity among Muslims as a must need for the supremacy of Islam prayed for the Jannat-ul-Firdous of all the martyrs of Kashmir and for the just struggle of Kashmiris to reach its logical conclusion.

The special sermon of the Mirwaiz which has always been a great attraction for the devotees who throng in the Grand Mosque in very large numbers to participate in the collective prayers and invocation for the welfare and safety of the entire Muslim Ummah and the word peace. However a large number of nonresident Kashmiris living in different parts of the world including USA, UK, Saudi Arabia Dubai, South Africa, Australia and as far as Iceland watched the Sermon of the Mirwaiz Live via Social Media and thus felt themselves the part of the congregation at Jamia Masjid Srinagar with a feeling of being part of the collective prayers and invocation before Almighty Allah.
