Police Drug De-addiction services, PCR Kashmir observed International week against drug abuse

Police Drug De-addiction services, PCR Kashmir observed International week against drug abuse and illicit trafficking at Government College for Women Nawakadal.Starting the program, NSS coordinator Government College for women Nawakadal Dr. Yasmeena Farooq gave the introduction about the programme. She briefed the participants about the magnitude of the menace and the familial and social implications it has.Programme was started by screening a documentary PARWAAZ, which sensitized the participants how and why people become addicted and the services provided at Drug De-addiction Services PCR, Kashmir. Senior counselor Mr Ghulam Rasool sensitized the participants about the drug addiction problem through a power point presentation. The presentation highlighted the causes, signs and symptoms, consequences on the person, family, and society; and the preventive measures to be taken.

Director drug de addiction centre, PCR, Dr. Mohammad Muzaffar khan started with an interactive session in which he took feedback from the participants about the recognition of drug addiction as a serious problem. He elaborated on the theme of the year 2016 “listen first” in which he stressed upon that we should not be judgmental and biased about the person who is suffering from addiction.SP Khanyar Shri Sajad Khaliq who was the chief guest on the occasion, highlighted the role of police in controlling drug addiction problem.Miss Iram Wani counselor at Drug De-addiction services highlighted drug addiction as a preventable disease and advocated that proper treatment for the disease is need of the hour. She stressed that proper education about drug abuse, parental supervision and conduction of continuous awareness programmes at school and college level is corner stone for preventing and reducing the magnitude of drug abuse.The program was concluded by the NSS Coordinator thanking the SP North and the resource persons from drug De-addiction services PCR Kashmir.
