All Jammu and Kashmir Aganwari Workers Association (AJKAWA) and Health and Family Welfare Association (HFWA)Thursday staged protest against the government for failing to provide them salaries from past couple of months. The protesters separately assembled in Srinagar’s Press enclave and chanted slogans against the government. The employees of two different departments in two separate protests were demanding their wages, which have not been released from past months. The members of AJKAWA told KNS that most of the women working in Angwari are widows. “By not releasing their wages from past six months, the government has put miseries in their lives. Our wages should be released before Eid,” they said. They appealed the government to release their salaries before Eid-ul-fitur. “So that we can happily celebrate Eid with our families,” the protestors said.Later, the protestors tried to march towards business hub Lal Chowk.Nonetheless, police intercepted the protesters and didn’t allow them to march.

Meanwhile, as soon as the AJKAWA protesters dispersed, the Health and Family Welfare Association demonstrated against government failure in releasing their wages, withheld from last ten months.Raising anti-government slogans, the protesters were demanding immediate release of their wages.Nelofar Shabir, president of the association told KNS that they are serving the department from past 25-30 years but despite that they are facing indiscrimination. She said that the government is forcing us to take streets, “In the year 2015 our salaries were released after one and a half year, and now we have been kept without wages since ten months even after doing night shifts,” she said. “We will stage state wide protest in case our demands will not be redressed till Monday,” she said.Meanwhile, they later dispersed peacefully.
