Two LeT militants killed in Pulwama

Two militants were Thursday killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Newa area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.Defence spokesman, Colonel N N Joshi while talking to KNS that two militants were killed in a gunfight.“One AK series rifle and one pistol were recovered from their possession,” he said. He said that after specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a joint operation was launched by army and JKP who cordoned off the area. “Several Several warning shots were earlier fired towards the suspected spot but the militants opened fire, triggering off an encounter,” he said.

SP Pulwama Mohammad Rayees Bhat said that the two militants killed in an encounter were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).“One among the militants was local and was identified as Manzoor Ahmad while another was a foreign militant,” he said, adding that the foreign militant killed in today’s encounter was part of Pampore attack in which eight CRPF men were killed while 20 sustained injuries.Meanwhile, eye-witnesses said that clashes erupted between youth and forces near the encounter site.The youth took to streets and raised pro-freedom slogans. “Police used tear smoke shells to disperse the youth who were throwing stones on them,” he said.
